A contractor quoting a mini-split install in Seminole County is not working against a backdrop of constant storm stress. 47 severe weather events were recorded in Seminole County, Georgia between 2015 and 2024. At that rate, severe weather is an event here, not a standing condition, which means the decisions that actually shape an install are site-specific: the orientation of the structure, the insulation in the walls, and the heat load of the rooms the system has to serve. Those are the variables that determine whether a unit is sized right, and they matter more here than any assumption about storm hardening.

Interior of an empty single-car garage with concrete block walls, a closed sectional metal door, exposed wooden ceiling joists with large galvanized ductwork, an aluminum step ladder and a brown paper sack on the floor.

Electrical panels in housing built for older appliance loads were sized for what existed then, and a mini-split draws on circuits that may not yet exist in the house at all. Half the homes in Seminole County, Georgia were built in 1981 or earlier (2020-2024 ACS 5-year). A contractor quoting a mini-split here will open the panel before settling on anything else, because the wiring question is what determines whether the installation is a straightforward mount-and-connect or a service upgrade job first.

What a Mini-split Looks Like Once It's In

Isometric line illustration of a cutaway house with two rooms, each with a wall-mounted indoor air conditioning unit connected by lines to an outdoor condenser unit on the ground outside.

The indoor air handler mounts high on a wall inside the room, and that is the piece a homeowner sees every day. It draws room air across its coil and delivers conditioned air back into the space. The outdoor unit sits on a pad or bracket outside the house and houses the compressor and condenser coil.

A set of refrigerant lines and a condensate drain line run through a small hole in the wall, connecting the two units. A dedicated electrical disconnect is mounted near the outdoor unit as well. Together these connections are bundled and routed along the exterior wall between the two points.

The drawing shows a typical layout, and a licensed contractor determines what applies to your specific house.

Severe Weather Events in Seminole County

Weather in this part of Georgia puts real demands on heating and cooling equipment, and those demands shape what a system needs to handle over its life. A mini-split sized and installed for local conditions holds up differently than one that was not.
